The week of Thanksgiving is finally here, and it is the busiest traveling week of the entire year! Whether you are flying across the world of piling into your car to head over to your neighboring state, you need to know how to avoid bed bugs while you are traveling. Though your time in your favorite hotel may seem like a treat, you should take note that bed bugs love to hide in hotel rooms everywhere, even clean ones! That is why our pest control experts in Maryland have come up with this list of tips to help you to avoid bed bugs while you are traveling:

  • Check the bed- You can thoroughly check the bed by pulling the linens back and looking all the way around the mattress and the bed frame. It may even be a good idea to check the other side of the mattress as well. Watch out for small blood stains, tiny black dots, or bed bugs themselves.
  • Keep your luggage elevated- Bed bugs can easily hitch a ride and come home with you through your luggage, and if you leave it on the floor or the spare bed, you are giving them easy access. Keep your luggage on the luggage rack, on top of the desk, or even the dresser to make it harder for bed bugs to hop in!
  • Talk to the hotel- Bed bugs are incredibly common, and one of the best ways to make sure that you picked the best hotel is to talk to them about their bed bug prevention procedures before your reserve your room.
